According to the experts we've spoken with, Arizona has had several known incidents where this has been attempted.  Remote readers have been found at several filling stations in the Tempe area, and the Secret Service were called in to investigate. 

Most recently, the AZ Republic reported on skimming in an August 4, 2008 edition. (We think this was magnetic strip skimming though, where the thieves placed a mock addition on the sliding device, and captured the PIN.)

Apparently thieves are trying to collect information data through Speedpass chips or contact less cards.
